DO I NEED CRITICAL ILLNESS?

Critical Illness

Critical illness is designed to pay a lump sum or regular income upon diagnosis of a specified critical illness. Some of us may be diagnosed with a critical illness at some point in life, and would not want to have to worry about how we were going to meet the bills, or to cover any additional costs incurred as a result of the illness.

You can take out a critical illness policy which pays out if this was ever to happen to you. This being such a stressful time the last thing you want to worry about is money or getting back to work, so the cash lump sum will help ease the worry.

Some people would also use the lump sum to pay for the best treatment available for that condition helping them recover

Do I need Critical Illness Cover?

If your family rely on you financially it's worth considering critical illness insurance to help protect against the impact a critical illness could have on you and your family. The pay out could help to cover things such as child care costs and household bills. Or you may want to use the pay out to help make adjustments to your home or lifestyle if needed, or to pay for specialist medical treatment - or even to take that trip of a lifetime to help you recover.

Critical illness cover is also usually cheaper if you buy it alongside life insurance. In fact, some insurers do not even sell standalone critical illness cover. But remember that there is normally only one pay-out. So, if you claim for a critical illness, you would not receive a further payout on death.
